The last couple of years clients have been asking me to give a workshop a little closer to home and the 10-13 of August I will be giving a location workshop on the West coast of Michigan which will include Sleeping Bear Dunes and the Gilmore Car Museum.
Chryslers Fluid Drive – After
To process this image I opened it in Photoshop CS6 to make an exposure adjustment and then took it into Topaz Simplify and used the Painting in Effects and then used Detail Removal and Enhancements to use the Spot Removal. The image still has a photographic quality but more.

My Midwest art fairs stared on Mother’s day weekend with the Birmingham show last weekend and we were fortunate to have wonderful weather. With the start of the show season I have been working on images from Italy and England most of the week and have had little time to enjoy the start of Michigan’s spring. This morning I went into the kitchen to put on a pot of tea, check out the bird feeders to see who was around and saw the setting moon as the rising sun was lighting the lilac bush in the front yard. The image made me decided that I needed to pull out my camera.
Moon over Lilacs – There’s no place like home
As I was taking the image, I was a foot away from the hummingbird feeders and enjoyed the buzzing of a female just inches from my left ear, so I decided to process this image using Topaz Clarity software. In the Nature Collection there is a Hummingbird Wings II preset that I used to make this image pop.

“For happiness, how little suffices for happiness! The least thing precisely, the gentles thing, the lightest thing, a lizard’s rustling, a breath, a wink, an eye glance—little makes up the best happiness. Be still.” – Nietzsche

Teaching and getting to know everyone in the Smoky Mountains was a great time for me. It has been busy since I have arrived home from the Smoky Mountain workshop getting ready for the spring midwest art fair circuit which starts on mothers day weekend in Birmingham. In-between the projects my thoughts drift back to the mountains and the fun that I had with everyone as a group and individually. Although I come home with many great memories and images there is always one that seems to stand out from each trip. From the Smokies it was being on top of Clingmans Dome with the cold wind whipping across the top of the mountain making tears swell up in everyone’s eyes as we waited for sunset. For the last 40 years I have enjoyed places like that and it is nice having company on those cold mountain tops. Thinking of it will always bring a warm smile and a thought; what a hardy group!
